NAIDOC Week 2018: Because of Her, We Can!

Heaton Public School had a great day celebrating Aboriginal culture and recognising the wonderful women in our lives.

To celebrate NAIDOC Week 2018, Heaton Public School came together as a community and participated in a range of activities.

We had a young Aboriginal artist come in to help the children create paintings using symbols and dot painting. To help cook Johnny cakes and talk about artefacts, the boys from Waratah Tech Campus and Jesmond Senior Campus, along with Uncle Alex Nean and Darren Woodhouse, came down to share their knowledge. The girls from Waratah Tech Campus and Jesmond Senior Campus came to run dance and sport sessions and helped out with beading.

It was a great day celebrating culture and taking time at the end of the day to reflect on the important women in our lives.
